The Role & Responsibilities
The Credit Manager is responsible for making informed and responsible lending decisions that balance commercial opportunity with prudent risk management. The role ensures all credit applications are assessed with diligence, consistency, and in line with the company’s underwriting policy, asset class frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
The role supports the quality and performance of the lending portfolio by:
- Delivering consistent, risk-aligned credit decisions
- Conducting thorough assessments of customer, financial, and asset information
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards
- Promoting strong customer outcomes
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Credit Assessment
- Assess and underwrite loan applications in line with the credit policy framework
- Analyse customer creditworthiness, financial statements, and asset valuations
- Make sound lending decisions aligned with risk appetite and portfolio objectives
- Structure appropriate lending solutions, including for complex cases
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure all decisions comply with underwriting policies, regulatory requirements, and documentation standards
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready records
- Identify and escalate risks in a timely and appropriate manner
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate clearly with internal teams, providing well-reasoned credit decisions
- Collaborate with Sales, Client Services, and Introducers to support a seamless customer experience
- Prepare and present credit reports, portfolio analysis, and initiatives to management and committees
Performance & Conduct
- Demonstrate sound judgement, professionalism, and accountability
- Contribute to maintaining a balanced and high-performing lending portfolio
- Complete all mandatory training, including AML and regulatory requirements
Regulatory Responsibilities (SMCR – Conduct Rules)

The Person
Required
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in credit underwriting within motor finance or asset finance
- Strong ability to interpret financial statements and management accounts
- Advanced numeracy and analytical skills, including Excel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of organisation and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc) or higher
- Experience working with high-net-worth (HNW) individuals
- Project management experience with delivery against defined outcomes
Leadership & Commercial Capability
- Strong underwriting capability, ideally within motor finance
- Experience handling both regulated and unregulated lending
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Focus on delivering customer-centric solutions within risk appetite
