  • Relish a challenge and enjoy a fast-paced, innovative and hardworking culture
  • Enjoy finding new and better ways to solve complexity and make things happen
  • Want to belong to a diverse culture that stands shoulder to shoulder with minority and underrepresented groups
  • Care about society and the environment and want to be part of a business that cares too
  • Want to continue to grow professionally and be the best version of yourself

The Role & Responsibilities

  • Shawbrook is a specialist lending bank built for owner-managed businesses. In Corporate Leverage, we provide smart, flexible cashflow lending to support acquisitions and growth across the UK Lower Mid-Market.
  • As a Director, you will operate at pace in a high-conviction, commercially dynamic environment: originating and leading complex transactions end-to-end, applying sharp credit judgement, and helping shape a growing franchise with visible impact.
  • You will own deals end-to-end; from first approach and structuring through diligence, credit approval and legal completion; balancing pace and commercial ambition with disciplined risk management, robust documentation and strong stakeholder outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Originate With Intent

  • Build and convert a strong pipeline, becoming the first call for advisors, investors and management teams when a cashflow deal needs to happen quickly.
  • Generate opportunities through targeted outbound activity, market presence and disciplined relationship coverage.
  • Apply front-end judgement: triage opportunities fast, qualify hard, and focus time on deals that fit appetite and deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns.

Lead Deal Strategy and Structuring

  • Typical transactions include acquisition finance and growth capital for UK owner-managed businesses and investor-backed (non-PE) companies, typically with EBITDA of £1m–£10m+, using cashflow-based underwriting.
  • Set the shape of each deal: structure facilities, covenant packages and protections that work for the client and remain robust in stressed scenarios.
  • Own the commercial outcome on pricing, terms and structure, balancing growth ambition with disciplined risk/return.
  • Get under the skin of businesses quickly: interrogate performance drivers, cash conversion, resilience and management capability.

Execute End-to-End With Momentum

  • Lead transactions from first engagement through diligence, credit submission, negotiation and completion of legal documentation.
  • Direct and quality-control outputs across diligence, modelling and analysis to ensure the work is decision-ready and anchored in the key credit risks.
  • Work with a strong junior deal team who provide analytical support, credit materials and diligence coordination.
  • Partner with the dedicated Portfolio team on material back-book activity, staying close to clients and supporting outcomes on amendments, waivers and key events.
  • Drive momentum across internal and external stakeholders, including Portfolio, Risk, Operations, Credit, Finance, Legal and advisors, removing friction and keeping deals moving.

Build the Franchise and Raise the Bar

  • Help set our agenda in Lower Mid-Market cashflow lending: where we play, how we originate, and the standards we hold in structuring and execution.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, raising capability in commercial thinking, credit discipline and delivery quality.
  • Contribute to a high-performance culture that is accountable, collaborative, direct and outcomes-focused.

Lead With Judgement on Risk, Governance and Conduct

  • Put risk thinking at the front of the deal: spot the issues early, shape the structure and protections accordingly, and keep control of the key moving parts through to close.
  • Drive disciplined pace: move quickly without cutting corners, and make clear calls when a deal needs tightening, re-shaping or walking away.
  • Give Credit confidence: present a crisp view of the business, cash generation, downside scenarios, covenants and mitigants, with a clear recommendation.
  • Maintain strong governance and compliance discipline throughout origination and execution: clear rationale, strong documentation, and no surprises.
  • We value pace with discipline: direct communication, strong ownership, and a bias to action, without compromising risk standards.

The Person

Skills & Experience

  • Proven deal leadership: Track record leading senior cashflow debt / leveraged finance transactions end-to-end, including structuring and legal negotiation.
  • Origination credibility: Established network with SME investors and intermediaries/advisors, and the presence to win trust quickly with senior stakeholders.
  • Sharp credit judgement: Confident interrogating financial statements, cash generation, resilience and downside risk; able to make clear, balanced recommendations.
  • Commercial edge: Strong instinct for pricing, structure and terms; understands competitive dynamics and how to protect returns.
  • High-pace execution: Comfortable running multiple complex workstreams, making decisions with imperfect information, and delivering outcomes.
  • Influence and communication: Can land complex ideas simply for Credit and senior stakeholders, and externally with clients and advisors.
  • Mentoring mindset: Enjoys raising capability in others and setting a high bar for quality.

Key attributes

  • Proven experience in financial services, including proven experience in senior corporate leverage cashflow debt transactions.
  • Demonstrable experience in structuring, executing and managing risk through to completion.
