The Role & Responsibilities
This role is part of the 2nd Line Compliance team, part of the Risk function.
The purpose of the role is to provide independent oversight of the adequacy and effectiveness of the measures and procedures in place to maintain compliance with FCA regulations and conduct risk appetite for secured and unsecured lending products sold to our retail customers.
This includes leading the implementation of regulatory compliance and conduct risk retail lending frameworks and policies designed to detect any risk of Shawbrook Group not complying with its obligations under the regulatory system.
This role will support the Director of Compliance and Conduct to oversee actions taken by the business to address any deficiencies in the firms compliance with its regulatory and conduct obligations and risk appetite for the retail lending customer lifecycle.
The role holder will achieve the above through:
- Regulatory awareness and change: Maintaining an awareness of Shawbrook Group's exposure to the evolving Retail Lending risk and regulatory landscape, which adequate and timely communication of the position to Compliance team management and wider stakeholders as appropriate.
- Policy: Oversee embedding of regulatory and conduct policies in relation to Retail Lending, including adequate and timely communication of any material non-compliance to Compliance team management and wider stakeholders as appropriate.
- Risk Management: Oversight of the Retail franchises adherence to the requirements for Regulatory and Conduct risk for Retail Lending, in line with the Group Risk Management Framework.
- Advice & Training: Ensuring timely, relevant and proportionate advice and training is provided to all applicable Shawbrook employees to understand their regulatory and conduct risk related obligations in relation to Retail Lending.
- Regulatory Engagement: Support the Chief Compliance Officer and Director of Compliance & Conduct with the management and oversight of all regulatory and conduct risk Retail Lending related communications to the FCA.
- Regulatory Governance: Support the Chief Compliance Officer and Director of Compliance & Conduct maintain appropriate governance frameworks for the regulatory and conduct risk frameworks, including attendance at relevant committees and forums and continual review and challenge of regulatory and conduct risk MI.
- Culture: Foster an effective Compliance and Conduct culture across the Group for Retail Lending.
The Person
The role holder must possess the following attributes:
- Knowledge: A good understanding of the financial services sector, with specific focus on Retail Lending regulation and regulatory and conduct risk frameworks.
- Capability: An inquisitive and curious approach to providing compliance and risk oversight to the business. A good ability to influence with the ability to package and present ideas to obtain agreement.
- Stakeholder Management: Work collaboratively with the 1st line product, operational and support teams. Possess an aptitude for developing good working relationships with colleagues, with an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
